Around town: Linus Bikes

I am going to be carless for at least two months in Chicago (perhaps permanently!) And while I appreciate the relative east of trains and buses (some might beg to differ :), I realize I need something personal to get me around the Chicago streets. I was thinking of just getting an easy used bike. But taking another look at Linus, which I discovered last year, I am wondering if I should just pay a little more and get a new one. 

I would love to hear your thoughts. New, old? What's really worth it?
