The important stuff

This week was one of those "I give up on life" type of weeks. I don't get them very often but when I do they are not pretty. I start to feel really lost and the little "pick me ups" that normally get me through my day just kind of don't work any more. When these moments strike, the place I always find myself returning to, is my Buddhist practice.

I realize that when I do post on this blog it is typically about some material object. Beautiful clothing, shoes, homes and far away places. I, of course, love these things and they bring me great inspiration much of the time. However, what I don't find myself often blogging about, are the things that truly sustain me: my Buddhist and yoga practice. I could own all the pretty things in the world but they wouldn't mean anything without these practices as my foundation. It is a gift to be able to travel down the road of self discovery. A gift that one should not squander.

When the rug gets pulled out from under you, it hurts. This week hurt. But it is also a good reminder of what it important. I will surely keep posting about pretty shoes and dresses and new projects I want to take on, but in the end I know that what makes these things possible is the gift of a contemplative life. A week like this reminds me of what is important and that we all have less time than we think. As Pema Chodron says: There is no time to lose!

On a lighter note: Meditation Flash Mobs? That is awesome!
