Still in transit

I have just begun the first leg of what is going to be a very loooooong trip. For as much as I enjoy going overseas, slip-ups like this one really make you homesick.

But looking back on our trip, one of the things I loved most about being in New Zealand were the animals. Although the island only had one native mammal when it was discovered in 1769, settlers have steadily been domesticating animals (with mixed results) onto the island ever since.

One of our favorites to look at were the millions of sheep (40 million to be exact) that graze the New Zealand countryside. They are such wonderful animals. It was also spring so the lambs were out, eagerly running after their moms.

These are actually Maine sheep but the photos via ACL were too good!
